EUGENE, Ore. - Shaking off one of their poorer starts in recent memory, The College of Idaho rolled to a four-set victory over upstart Northwest Christian, winning 9-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-18 inside the Morse Events Center.
The victory for the Lady Yotes (4-7, 4-1 CCC) extended their win streak to four matches and helped the team remain unbeaten against NCU in 13 meetings.
C of I struggled mightily early on - as the Beacons (9-5, 3-3) jumped out to an 11-2 lead in Set 1, fueled by a pair of Chandler Gabrio aces. The nine points scored by the Yotes in the set marked their fewest in a 25-point frame in Cascade Conference action.
Unfortunately for the hosts, the Yotes caught fire in Set 2, as Liz Myers had five kills and three block assists in a 15-2 run that broke a 3-3 tie, as C of I evened the match. Set 3 had five ties and two lead changes, with NCU closing within 18-17 on a Maren Mansfield kills - but a Sofia Anxo kill, a C of I combo-block, and a Beacon hitting error allowed the Yotes to extend the margin to 23-18 and take a two sets to one lead.
The finale saw the Yotes use an early 5-0 run, helped by three NCU hitting errors, to lead 8-3, extending the margin to 18-9 on a Myers-Anxo block, and cruised to the road win.
Myers recorded her second-straight double-double with 12 kills and 11 blocks, while Anxo had 10 kills and freshman blocker Randi Sturtz added a career-high eight kills. Sierra Porter had 37 assists and 19 digs, with Janel Porter leading the Yotes with 20 digs.
Mansfield had 15 kills and 10 digs in the loss for NCU, with Cori Wallace recording 42 assists and 15 digs.
C of I returns home next weekend for matches vs. Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech.
