Lady Yotes Survive in Five at Corban

Box Score

SALEM, Ore. - Lili Brochado had a match-high 22 kills, helping The College of Idaho stave off an upset bid by Corban University, dispatching the Warriors in five sets by a score of 22-25, 25-13, 25-15, 22-25, 15-13, at Warrior Court.

The senior outside hitter had a block and two kills in the decisive fifth set, including driving home the match-winning spike to extend the Lady Yotes (3-7, 3-1 CCC) win streak to three in a row.

The scrappy Warriors (2-11, 0-5) got three Miah Smith kills and forced three C of I hitting errors in a key 7-2 spurt in Set 4 that broke a 15-15 tie, sending the match to the final run to 15. Corban bolted out to a 9-6 lead in the finale after a Claire Bailey kill and led 12-9 after a combo-block by Jenny Harman and Payton Wilcox. However, the Yotes persevered – as following a Warrior service error, Sofia Anxo drove home a pair of winners to tie the score, with Kylee Nawahine recording a service ace to give the Purple and Gold their second lead of the set. After a C of I hitting error tied the score at 13, Sierra Porter won a joust at the net on a 50-50 ball to give the Coyotes match point, with Brochado ending the match with a spike.

Corban won the first set on the strength of an early 4-0 run, capped by an Olivia Shropshire kill, to erase a 9-8 C of I lead – an edge they wouldn't relinquish. Set 2 was all Yotes, getting six kills from Brochado and four from Myers – closing the period on a 12-1 push. The Warriors would surge out to a 7-3 lead in Set 3 – including back-to-back Shropshire aces, but Brochado had four kills in a C of I 11-1 run to take control of the set.

Brochado added 11 digs in the victory – one of three Coyotes with double-doubles. Myers added 14 kills and 10 blocks in the win, with Porter logging six kills, 49 assists, 14 digs, and five blocks. Nawahine had a team-high 23 digs and five blocks, as the Yotes racked up 15.5 total blocks on the evening.

Shropshire led Corban with 14 kills, 10 digs, and five aces, while Smith had 10 kills and three blocks. Harman led the Warriors with eight blocks, Wilcox had 18 assists and four blocks, and Katherine Salness led the hosts with 22 digs.

The Yotes have a quick turnaround, meeting Northwest Christian tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
