Lady Yotes End Losing Streak, Stop Evergreen in Four

Box Score

CALDWELL, Idaho – Liz Myers had 15 kills and six blocks and Kylee Nawahine added 10 kills, 11 digs, and four aces, leading The College of Idaho to their 72nd straight Cascade Conference home win, defeating The Evergreen State College, 25-11, 25-10, 24-26, 25-9, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

The win for the Lady Yotes (1-7, 1-1 CCC) ended an eight-match losing streak dating back to 2012.

The Coyotes dominated the first two sets to take a commanding lead in the match. The C of I used a 14-3 run early in Set 1, including two Nawahine kills, to erase a 5-4 ESC lead to win the opener. Set 2 saw the Yotes get four service aces in an opening 16-2 spurt to lead to the period win.

After cruising through the first two sets, the Yotes ran into a tough battle in Set 3, as the Geoducks (2-5, 1-2) built a 23-19 lead on a Cassidy Watkins kill. C of I fought back, pulling even at 24-24 on a combo-block from Nawahine and Kylie Porter. However, a Brandie Victorino kill and a C of I hitting error gave Evergreen the set win – ending a 56-set losing streak to the Yotes.

The hosts left no doubt in Set 4, as Myers had three kills in an 11-point push early in the period, building a 14-1 lead and rolled to the victory.

Sofia Anxo had 12 kills with Sierra Porter adding 33 assists and three aces. Janel Porter had 23 digs to lead the Yotes, with Cheyan Coburn recording a career-high 12 digs.

Natimia Barker-Doss led the Geoducks with seven kills; Kelsey Delagrange recording 21 assists; and Liza Domingo recording 21 digs.

The Yotes close out a three-match homestand tomorrow night against Northwest University.
