Trio of Tennis Players Earn Postseason Honors

Hayley Hutchings, Tayna Greenwood, Cassie Low honored following the 2013 season
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A trio of College of Idaho women’s tennis players received postseason honors at the culmination of the 2013 season.

Senior Hayley Hutchings was the recipient of the prestigious ITA Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship, while senior Cassie Low and junior Tanya Greenwood were named to the NAIA Scholar-Team.

Hutchings becomes the first-ever C of I recipient of the Arhtur Ashe Award, earning the honor for the West Region of the NAIA.  The award, which dates back to 1982, goes to NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, and junior college players in four regions (West, North, South, East) – given to players who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, as well as scholastic, extracurricular, and tennis achievements.

“Hayley has displayed impeccable sportsmanship on and off the court for four years representing The C of I,” remarked head coach, Cisco Limbago.  “She has led her team in matches won and in team fitness through leading by example.  She also has given of her time in helping with summer programs – teaching young students tennis through the NJTL program, whose lessons and beliefs stem from Arthur Ashe’s own life.”

Both Low and Greenwood were honored among 119 student-athletes by the NAIA for being at least a junior in academic standing and maintaining a 3.50 cumulative grade point average or higher.  It marks the fourth NAIA award for Low – who earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors in volleyball (2011 and 2012) and in tennis (2012 and 2013).
