EUGENE, Ore. - Molly Mills and Paige Gabiola provided the offense, and Nickayla Skinner and Cortni Pena provided the pitching, as The College of Idaho rolled to a pair of mercy rule victories at Northwest Christian, winning 10-0 and 8-0, at James Park.
Mills went a combined 5-for-7 with five runs scored in the twinbill, while Gabiola went 4-for-6 with six RBI to lead the Lady Yotes (15-13, 3-5 CCC) attack. Skinner and Pena each tossed five inning shutouts, as the host Beacons (5-11, 3-5) had just one runner reach third base on the afternoon.
The C of I broke open a scoreless tie in the opener with a seven-run third inning - all coming with two outs. With the bases loaded, Rachael Strong was hit by a pitch to get the Yotes on the board, with McKensie Stanton following with a walk to make it 2-0. After a Katie Rowe RBI single pushed the lead to 3-0, Gabiola followed with a grand slam home run to cap the inning.
In the fourth, Kayla Webb lined an RBI double and Strong lined a two-run single to extend the lead to 10-0. It was enough for Skinner, who limited NCU to just four hits in the win - her 42nd win and 14th shutout of her career, tying Katie Zillner's school record.
The Yotes jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in Game 2, scoring runs on a fielding error, a Gabiola RBI single, and a Rowe bases loaded walk. The lead would grow to 6-0 in the second on a Stanton sacrifice fly, a Gabiola RBI single, and a NCU error. The C of I would cap the scoring in the third, as Mills hit her team-high fifth home run of the season.
Pena allowed just one hit - a single by Laynee Bevans in the first. The righty walked two and struck out two to pick up her fifth win of the year.
