PORTLAND, Ore. - Liz Myers recorded a career-high 17 kills, helping The College of Idaho snap Concordia University's 12-match win streak, upending the No. 19 ranked Cavaliers, 21-25, 25-19, 25-22, 27-25, at Cavalier Court.
The win for the Yotes (6-8, 6-2 CCC) was their sixth win in their last seven matches - hitting at a .248 clip and forcing the nationally-ranked hosts into 26 attack errors.
In Set 1, the Cavaliers (14-3, 7-1) trailed saw the Yotes score the first three points and lead 16-13, before scratching out a 25-21 win. Mariah Raudsepp and Melanie Miller each had five kills in the period.
The Yotes took command early in the second; generating a 5-1 lead off an Lili Brochado kill. The Cavs climbed back to tie the set at 8-8 and briefly took the lead at 10-9 off a C of I error, but the Coyotes used a 6-1 run spree en route to the 25-19 win.
CU finally got on the board first in the third set and enjoyed a 3-1 early lead only to see the Yotes score seven straight points with a pair of kills coming off the arm of Liz Myers. The Cavs rallied to within to within 24-22, but an attacking error doomed the comeback attempt.
Set 4 was tight, featuring 16 ties, including a stalemate at 23-23. A kill by Jackie Stein gave CU set point, but Myers answered with a kill. Amanda Goringe followed with a kill for the Cavs, but a service error, a Kylee Nawahine kill, and a Cavs hitting error, helped the Yotes score the final three points to complete the road win.
Brochado had 15 kills in the victory, with Nawahine adding 12 kills, five digs, and five blocks. Emily Ottinger returned to the line-up, recording nine kills, with Sierra Porter logging 50 assists and 16 digs, Kylie Porter registering seven blocks, and Janel Porter a team-high 30 digs.
Raudsepp had 16 kills to lead CU, with Stein recording 13 kills and Goringe 10 kills and four blocks. Lindsay Mangan had 49 assists and 12 digs, with Shantel Gritsch recording 39 digs and four aces.
