PORTLAND, Ore. - The College of Idaho made three first half goals stand up, as the Lady Yotes opened up Cascade Conference play with a key 3-2 victory over Warner Pacific at Palermini Stadium.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Yotes (3-5, 1-0 CCC) - continuing recent success in league openers. The C of I is now 6-1-2 in their last nine CCC openers, dating back to the 2005 season.
The Knights (1-3, 0-1) opened the scoring on their first shot of the day - as in the sixth minute, Roxana Gomez headed home a Hannah Milhollen free kick at the far post to make it 1-0.
It didn't take long for the Yotes to answer, as in the tenth minute Jamiece Yizar made a run down the right side, placing a perfect cross to Camas Curran, who flicked home the equalizer. Four minutes later, C of I took the lead, as Curran collected a ball 25-yards from the box, split two defenders and hit a low shot that found the left corner of the net.
C of I extended the lead to 3-1 in the 36th minute - as Bri Blair converted a penalty kick after WP was whistled for a foul in the box.
The Knights would get within a goal in the 58th minute, as Milhollen drove a free kick from just outside the box into the right corner of the twice. However, WP would not get a shot on frame the rest of the way.
The Yotes held a slim 9-8 edge in total shots and a 5-2 edge in shots on goal in the victory, while recording five of the six corner kicks in the match.
After a day off tomorrow, the Yotes continue their road trip, heading to Concordia for a Saturday match-up.
