CALDWELL, Idaho - First half goals by Mishayla Bertelsen and Amanda Sunthonlap gave Northwest Christian a lead and keeper Kristin Fulbright made eight saves, leading Northwest Christian past The College of Idaho, 2-0, at Simplot Stadium.
The win keeps the Beacons (4-10-1, 2-4-1 CCC) postseason hopes alive, while the Lady Yotes were eliminated from playoff contention.
The Coyotes (3-12, 1-7) had the run of the pitch in the opening 10 minutes - nearly breaking through with a pair of opportunities from Katy Radko - who had a header off a corner kick in the 3rd minute stopped by Fulbright and just missed with a 20-yard crack in the ninth minute.
NCU got on the board in the 13th minute, as Stevie Harrison collected a misplayed ball by the Coyote defense in the left corner of the box, playing a ball back to Bertelson, who cracked a shot into the upper right corner of the net from 25 yards for the 1-0 lead.
The Yotes looked to answer in the 20th minute, as a pretty through-ball found Jamiece Yizar, but Fulbright stopped the 1-on-1 chance. The Beacons added to the lead in the 39th minute, as Megan Baum laced a 25-yard shot that hit off the bottom of the crossbar, with Sunthonlap touching home the rebound.
C of I, who has lost seven-straight, helpd a 16-12 edge in total shots and a 9-6 edge in corner kicks.
It was the final home game for five Lady Yote senior student-athletes - Melissa Holmes-Joseph, Sarah Hicks, Devhan Morgan, Amanda Boyce, and Shea Yuma.
The Yotes close out the season next Saturday at Eastern Oregon.
