OLYMPIA, Wash. - Four College of Idaho players recorded double-digit kills, as the Lady Yotes won their fifth-straight match, defeating The Evergreen State College, 25-14, 27-29, 25-15, 25-10 inside the CRC Gymnasium.
The win for the Yotes (9-8, 9-2 CCC) was their ninth victory in 10 matches and kept the squad in second-place in the Cascade Conference standings.
Set 1 belonged to Sofia Anxo, as the senior had eight of the Yotes 18 kills in the frame - as C of I jumped out to a 9-1 lead on a hitting error by the Geoducks (2-13, 1-9), extending the margin to 16-6 and 21-9 on Anxo kills.
Evergreen responded in Set 2, getting a kill and a service ace from Cassidy Watkins to lead 7-5. The Geoducks pushed the margin to 15-11 on a Kelsey Delagrange kill and led 23-19 after a Watkins spike. The Yotes fought back, getting two Emily Ottinger kills in a 4-0 run take a 25-24 lead - but after a 27-27 deadlock, Brandee Victorino gave ESC the lead and a C of I hitting error gave the hosts the set victory.
Set 3 was tight early, as the Yotes held a 11-9 lead, but used a 7-1 surge, keyed by a pair of Anxo kills to take command of the frame. Set 4 was all C of I, jumping out to a 9-3 lead, as Anxo added five kills and Ottinger logged four spikes to help the Yotes close out the win.
Anxo led all players with 19 kills and nine digs, with Ottinger adding a season-high 15 kills. Liz Myers had 12 kills and four blocks, Kylee Nawahine had 10 kills and 12 digs, Sierra Porter had 50 assists, and Janel Porter recorded 20 digs.
Victoria Love led the Geoducks with 14 kills and Watkins had 11 kills in the loss. Delagrange had 34 assists for ESC, with libero Liza Domingo notching 15 digs.
C of I returns to action on Friday night, hosting Eastern Oregon at 7 p.m.
