KANSAS CITY, Mo. – College of Idaho standout Hillary Holt was honored today as NAIA National Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, announced by the NAIA sports information office.
Holt, a junior from Meridian, helped set a pair of school records at the Jackson’s Invitational over the weekend, posting two times that rank No. 1 in the current NAIA national standings.
The two-time NAIA national champion erased a 200-meter deficit in the final leg of Friday’s distance medley relay, helping the Lady Yotes to a come-from-behind victory, with a time of 11:59.43, the fastest time in the NAIA by 26 seconds. Holt surged past runners from UC-Irvine, Idaho State, and host Boise State in the final laps to earn the win.
She followed Saturday with a third-place finish in the mile-run in an elite field of 27, crushing the school record by 10 seconds with a time of 4:48.55. Holt ran the fastest time in the NAIA by seven seconds, despite competing at 2,600-feet in altitude.
It marks the second NAIA national weekly award honor for Holt, as she earned a similar honor during the 2012 cross country season.
Holt joins Jared Larsen (men’s soccer in 1999, 2000) as the only two-time winner of the award. She is the eighth C of I women’s athlete to earn the accolade, while 11 C of I male athletes have earned the distinction.
The C of I returns to action this weekend at the Bronco Classic in Nampa.
