Lady Yotes Stunned at Northwest Christian, 2-1

Katy Radko scored the Yotes lone goal vs. NW Christian
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Stevie Harrison scored with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation, leading Northwest Christian to their first-ever women’s soccer victory over The College of Idaho, topping the Lady Yotes, 2-1, at Mike Kelly Field.

Box Score

The Yotes (1-4-1, 0-1 CCC) dominated the first 30 minutes of the match, getting an early lead on a Katy Radko tally just nine minutes in.  The sophomore pounded on a shot by Shea Yuma that was blocked and hammered the ball into the open net.

The Beacons (3-4-2, 1-0), who had just three shots on goal in the entire match, evened the score in the 33rd minute, when Harrison played a through-ball to Nikki Webster, beating C of I keeper Melissa Holmes-Joseph in a 1-on-1 chance.

In the second half, the two teams played to a virtual stalemate until the winner in the 83rd minute, when Mishayla Bertelsen chipped a ball over the Coyote back line, finding the on-side Harrison, who found the net.

The Yotes held a 11-6 edge in shots and a 5-0 edge in corner kicks, but dropped their league opener.  It was a rough match, with the teams combining for 27 fouls.  NCU, which started a women’s soccer program in 2007, had gone 5-0 in five previous meetings with The C of I.

Tomorrow, the Lady Yotes head up the road, taking on Corban University at 2 p.m.
