SALT Lake City, Utah - A pair of second half goals by Mollie Brown helped Avila University spoil the debut of Brian Smith as head coach, as the Eagles' knocked off The College of Idaho, 3-1, at the Westminster Kickoff Classic at Dumke Field.

After a flurry of activiy in front of the Coyotes (0-1) goal 15 minutes into the second half that forced C of I keeper Melissa Holmes-Joseph to make a pair of tough saves, Avila broke through. Laurel Lajano played a cross to the top of the six-yard box in the 67th minute, with Brown flicking it home to break a 1-1 tie.
The Yotes tried to counter in the next ten minutes, as Alex Suggs got a pair of shots on goal, but Eagles (1-0) keeper Stephanie Gartner made two saves. Brown would put the game away in the 85th minute, chipping a 30-yard strike into the net.
Avila got on the board in the 12th minute, as Alyssa D'Egidio took a cross from Cara Duke and scored, but the Coyotes responded just before halftime, as Jessica Ayala made a great move from 30-yards out, got into the box, and slotted home the equalizer into the right corner of the net.
AU held a 13-6 edge in shots, including an 8-3 edge in shots on goal, while recording a 4-3 margin in corner kicks.
Suggs was the lone C of I player with more than one shot, while Holmes-Jospeh had five saves in the loss.
The Lady Yotes meet host Westminster tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in thier tournament finale.
