Lady Yotes Score Four in Win Over Warner Pacific

Sarah Hicks scored the Yotes first goal in today's win over WP
CALDWELL, Idaho – A dominant first 45 minutes by The College of Idaho helped the Lady Yotes move above the .500 mark in Cascade Conference play, stopping Warner Pacific, 4-1, at Simplot Stadium.

Box Score

The Yotes (4-5-1, 3-2 CCC) used a three goal barrage in a four minute span late in the opening period to build a 4-0 lead, with the squad emptying their bench in the second half.

The C of I got on the board in the eighth minute, as Jessica Ayala touched a great through-ball to the streaking Sarah Hicks, who beat WP (1-10, 0-4) keeper Lynzee Felder to the far post for a 1-0 lead.  After a trio of near misses, the Yote reserves strung together an impressive run – starting in the 37th minute.  Sydney Woods collected the rebound of a Brianna Strodtbeck shot outside the box and looped a left-footed shot over Felder for a 2-0 lead.

Just 33 seconds later, Brittney Lacey played a cross into the middle of the area, finding Mekenzie Messick, who flicked a ball into the twice for a 3-0 lead.  Three minutes later, Strodtbeck played a ball to Brianna Blair at the top of the 18, looping a shot over Felder’s head to complete the run – as the Yotes held a commanding 13-1 edge in first half shots.

The Knights picked up the tempo in the second half – getting on the board in the 53rd minute, as Anna Blakeslee collected a loose ball a step inside the box and one-timed a shot into the right corner of the net.  WP would control the tempo for the next 20 minutes, but could not crack the Yote defense.

The C of I held a 15-10 edge in total shots, while the Knights had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

The Lady Yotes return to action next weekend with key road tilts at Evergreen and Northwest.
