Colby Named Interim Swimming & Diving Head Coach

CALDWELL, Idaho – College of Idaho athletic director Reagan Rossi has announced that Greg Colby has been elevated from assistant coach to interim head coach for both the men's and women's swimming and diving program for the 2018-19 season.

Colby, who has been an assistant coach for the past two seasons, replaces Jim Everett, who stepped away from coaching duties to become co-president of the College in April.

"We are excited to have a coach of Greg's caliber join our Coyote family," Rossi said.  "The student-athletes, as well as the entire coaching staff, will benefit from his experience."

The former swimmer at the University of Wisconsin was the head girls coach at Bainbridge High in Washington from 1992-2016, helping his team to four state titles – never finishing lover than seventh at the 3A state championships. He coached 23 individual and 21 relay state champions – including 2008 Olympic silver medalist Emily Silver.

"I am excited to continue the success of the program, as both our men's and women's teams are coming off a great season and we return outstanding student-athletes," Colby said.

Prior to his coaching days, Colby swam for Everett as a member of the Boise YMCA swim team and is a member of the Boise YMCA Swimming Hall of Fame.

"I am thrilled that Greg is taking over the program," Everett said.  "Greg swam for me 40 years ago, was a Division I swimmer and a five-time high school Coach of the Year.  Greg is committed to developing great leaders and people of strong character.  This program will go to a new level under Greg's leadership."

Both the C of I men and women return the bulk of their teams that each finished in the Top-10 at Nationals – with the Lady Yotes placing seventh and the Coyote men finishing a school-record eighth.

"The Yotes are going to do what they need to do, when they need to do it," Colby said. "So they can do what they want to do, when they want to do it."
