NEW ORLEANS, La. – College of Idaho's
Hayley Morse was honored today as the USTFCCCA West Region NAIA Field Athlete of the Year, announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The senior, from Boise, has been the top thrower on the west coast throughout the 2018 outdoor season and was named Cascade Conference Field Athlete of the Meet at the recent CCC Championships – winning league titles in both the shot put and hammer throw and placing second in the discus.
Morse has qualified for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in both the shot put and hammer throw – breaking the school record in each event this season. Her mark of 14.26 meters (46 feet, 9.5 inches) in the shot put is No. 6 in the NAIA, while her top hammer throw of 51.09 meters (167 feet, 7 inches) broke the previous school record by nearly four meters. She also established a new personal-best mark in the discus.
She will be joined by seven other teammates at this week's NAIA Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala., with competition beginning on Thursday.
