PORTLAND, Ore. - The College of Idaho earned the No. 14 seed in next week's Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association Division II National Championships and will face No. 3 seed Minnesota Duluth in a first-round match-up in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Yotes (11-2), winners of nine-straight matches, will meet UMD next Monday morning, with the start time set for 11 a.m.
The Bulldogs (10-5) are making their third-straight appearance at the national championships - advancing to the second-round last season. UMD is led by top scorers Scott McNamara (49 goals, 38 assists) and Jared Johnson (30 goals, 6 assists), along with goalie Blake Nastrom (6.71 GAA, .615 save pct.).
C of I dominated the major PNCLL awards, announced following the conference tournament - as
Nich Guzzetti earned league MVP honors,
Matt Gier was named Coach of the Year and
Joey Brant earned Freshman of the Year honors.
Guzzetti, a four-time All-PNCLL attack selection, earns the MVP award for the second-straight year - leading the team in scoring - tallying 48Â goals and setting a school record with 37 assists heading into the MCLA Tournament.
Brant led the Yotes with 52 goals on the season - three off the school record - adding second-team attack honors to his ledger.
Gier earns PNCLL Coach of the Year honors for the fourth time, previously earning the award in 2010, 2015 and 2017.
Joining Guzzetti on the PNCLL first-team was midfielder
Cory Brady; with defender
Bryan Dilworth and short-stick midfielder
Keenan Pattwell earning second-team honors; while
R.J. Walker (attack),
Avyion Fisher (face-off specialist) and
Tyler Sanchez (midfielder) earning honorable mention honors.
