CALDWELL, Idaho – College of Idaho set a single-game scoring record to clinch their second-straight Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League South Division title, rolling past the University of Portland, 30-8, on Senior Day at Symms Field.
Playing on their home grass field for the first time in 2018, the Yotes (9-2, 5-0) dominated the Pilots – surpassing the single-game scoring record of 29 goals, established twice this season in divisional wins over Pacific Lutheran and Southern Oregon.
Back-to-back goals by the Pilots (5-6, 2-2) early in the first quarter cut UP's deficit to 4-2. However, C of I answered with eight straight goals in an eight minute stretch spanning the opening quarters – as
Nich Guzzetti scored three times and
Joey Brant added a pair of markers – breaking the game wide open.
R.J. Walker took over from there, scoring six of his seven goals in the second half – one of seven different C of I players with multiple goals.
Guzzetti had five goals and five assists, while Brant,
Keenan Pattwell and
Dami Ashaye each scored four goals in the victory.
Cory Brady had two goals, three assists and 14 ground balls, while goalie
Jonah Jordan needed to make just four saves.
The game marked the final home contest for four C of I seniors – Guzzetti, Brady,
Bryan Dilworth and
Willy Budell.
With the victory, C of I will earn a quarterfinal bye at the upcoming PNCLL Division II Championships in Lake Oswego, Ore.
