DAVIS, Calif. - Erasing an 8-4 deficit inside the final quarter, the College of Idaho lacrosse team was in position for overtime - however, Nicholas Lombardo had other plans, scoring an unassisted goal with 10 seconds left, lifting the Aggies to the 9-8 victory.
The No. 21-ranked Aggies (4-1) never trailed in the match - as a Fordham Lee strike early in the final period gave the hosts the 4-goal cushion. C of I had other ideas, as
Nich Guzzetti scored two goals and assisted on a
Joey Brant strike to pull within one. Brant followed with less than two minutes to play with an unassisted goal to draw even for the first time since 1-1 - but Lombardo's goal helped the hosts survive.
Playing for the first time in a month, the No. 14-ranked Yotes (2-1) got four goals and an assist from Guzzetti, with Brant scoring a pair and
R.J. Walker and
Tyler Sanchez finishing one.
C of I returns to action tomorrow, meeting UC-Santa Cruz at Noon.
