COLUMBUS, Ga. – Three College of Idaho athletes earned All-America honors and two relay teams added national awards, as the Lady Yotes jumped into sixth-place after Day 2 of the NAIA Women's Swimming and Diving National Championships inside Columbus Aquatics Center.
Maddy Kelly became the first multi individual All-American in program history; both
Stephanie Casaus and
Emily Gahn earned All-America honors in 1-meter diving, while both the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relays earned All-America honors after qualifying for the championship final.
The Lady Yotes finished Day 2 with 112.5 team points – Olivet Nazarene holds the team lead (191), ahead of SCAD-Savannah (188) and Cumberlands (166).
Kelly clocked the second-fastest 50-yard freestyle time in program history in the evening final, with her time of 23.89 seconds tying for third – equaling the best finish ever by a C of I women's swimmer. She also anchored the 200-free relay team to a seventh-place finish (1:38.02) and swam the butterfly leg on the fifth-place 400-medley relay (3:56.06) that set the school record in the preliminary round.
Competing for the first time since October, Causus recorded a six-dive total of 190.95 points to place third overall, with Gahn right behind her with 187.50 points.
Three other athletes competed in individual events –
Deandre Small recorded a time of 24.71 seconds in the 50-free, placing 17th, missing the consolation final by .01 seconds;
Hailie Mazick placed 36th in the 50-free (25.77); with
Taylor Gordon placing 26th in the 500-yard freestyle (5;26.92).
Day 3 of the four-day meet begins Friday morning with preliminary heats at 9 a.m. (EST), with the championship and consolation finals at 5 p.m. (EST)
