POCATELLO / NAMPA, Idaho –
Kristopher Kostelecky and
Brooks Ney cracked the NAIA Top-10 with quality heptathlons at the Mountain State Games inside Holt Arena, while
Josh Brown unleashed the second-best weight throw in College of Idaho history at the Jackson's/Nike Boise Indoor Open.
Competing at two venues over the weekend – the group in Eastern Idaho provided highlights. Kostelecky finished the grueling two-day event with a career-best 4,584 points, with Ney right behind him with 4,511 points.
Kostelecky, who won the high jump on Friday, jumps into the No. 7 spot in the NAIA top-times list, with Ney in ninth-place. The Top-16 marks nationally during the regular-season earn a trip to the NAIA Championships.
C of I also got solid marks from
Matt McLaughlin in the 400-meters (51.08) and
Dylan Haas in the 800-meters (1:58.11), while the Distance Medley Relay narrowly missed the NAIA standard (10:30.58).
In the Treasure Valley, Brown placed third in the weight throw, improving his NAIA "B" mark with a heave of 16.79 meters (55 feet, 1 inch). He was also the top C of I finisher in the shot put (13.25 meters / 43 feet, 5.75 inches).
Devin Gaskins led the sprinters – recording seasonal best marks of 7.37 seconds in the 60-meter dash and 23.66 seconds in the 200-meters.
Next week, the Yotes will split their squad a second time – some traveling to Seattle for the UW Open, with the remaining members of the team competing at the Boise State Team Challenge.
