TACOMA, Wash. –
R.J. Walker recorded the most prolific scoring game in over a decade and
Nich Guzzetti tied the school record for assists, as the College of Idaho dominated Pacific Lutheran, 29-3, in the Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League South Division opener.
Walker scored 10 goals and added three assists in just three quarters of action – the most goals by a C of I player since Cody Hart set the school record with 11 counters in a 2007 match vs. Lewis & Clark. Guzzetti added four goals, but tied Colin Burke's school mark of seven assists – also from that 2007 match-up.
The Yotes (2-0) dominated play from the outset – as Walker scored the first four goals of the match, with Guzzetti adding four markers in the second quarter, as C of I bolted to a 13-0 lead. The margin would grow to 23-2 after a
Joey Brant goal in the third quarter – as the Purple and Gold recorded their most lopsided conference win in program history.
Brant had five goals and four assists;
Aaron Canode scored three goals; with both
Cory Brady and
Servando Guerrero each logging two goals and an assist.
Goalkeeper
Luke Kempers made nine saves in the victory.
C of I has a month off to prepare for their first-ever trip to California for matches at No. 22 ranked UC-Santa Cruz and UC Davis.
