OAKLAND, Calif. –
Maddy Kelly won the 50-yard freestyle and
Caroline Yannelli recorded a pair of third-place finishes, helping the College of Idaho to a fourth-place finish at the Bay Area Invitational at Trefethen Aquatics Center.
The Lady Yotes recorded 346 team points in the five-team invite, finishing behind Cal State-East Bay (747), Biola (517) and UC-Santa Cruz (464), with host Mills College in fifth (222).
Kelly hit an NAIA "A" qualifying mark with her victory in the 50-free (24.70), while adding a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (54.84) and a fourth-place effort in the 100-yard butterfly (100.68).
Yannelli established a new automatic qualifying mark with her bronze medal in the 400-yard IM (4:47.85), while improving her national mark with her finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.04).
C of I hit two NAIA bonus cuts on the day –
Taylor Gordon in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:09.01) and
Deandre Small in the 100-free (57.17).
The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Kelly, Gordon, Yannelli and
Jessica Sparks hit the NAIA "A" mark with their time of 8:38.39.
The Lady Yotes compete at home in two weeks against Southwestern Oregon CC.
