OAKLAND, Calif. – Seven different College of Idaho athletes won individual events and the Coyotes swept all three relays, leading the squad to the team title at the Bay Area Invitational at Trefethen Aquatic Center.
The Yotes recorded 12 new national qualifying marks in piling up 645 team points, just ahead of Division III power UC-Santa Cruz (637) and Division II Biola (518).
Two C of I athletes won multiple events, including freshman
Andrew Clifford, who hit automatic qualifying cuts in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.12) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:47.06).
Dylan Osborne also won twice, sweeping the 50-yard freestyle (21.68) and the 100-yard butterfly (52.08).
Thomas Sheridan recorded two NAIA "A" marks – winning the 400-yard IM (4:14.28) and taking second in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:01.09).
Cooper Salmen also hit two national cuts – notching an "A" mark with a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (54.59) and a "B" cut in winning the 100-yard freestyle (48.95).
Jon Jennings won the 100-back (54.16) and hit a bonus cut with a second place finish in the 100-free (48.96);
Graham Williams earned a "B" cut in the 1,650-free (17:28.54), as did
Ian Jenkins in the 400-IM (4:31.28).
The Yotes clocked national auto marks in winning all three relays – the 400-yard medley (3:38.07), the 800-yard freestyle (7:19.97) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:28.08); Jenkins won the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.57); with
Brad Motyer winning the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.30).
C of I returns to action in two weeks, hosting Southwestern Oregon CC on Nov. 11.
