GULF SHORES, Ala. - Austin Basterrechea won the 1,500-meters as part of an All-America performace in the decathlon and Nick Hampton shattered College of Idaho's 800-meter school record on Day 2 of the NAIA Track and Field National Championships.
Live ResultsBasterrechea destroyed the field in the 1,500-meters (4:20.05), winning the event by 12 seconds, helping him tally a season-best score of 6,954 points - good enough for fifth-place and his fourth career All-America award. The senior recorded a sixth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (15.99), took eighth in the discus (108-4), placed ninth in the pole vault (13-5 1/4) also the javelin (150-4).
Competing in the fastest of five 800-meter preliminary heats, Hampton placed fourth, breaking his own school record with a time of 1:51.75. His mark was good enough for ninth place and was the first person left out of tomorrow's final.
Hampton will close out his C of I career tomorrow, competing in the final of the 1,500-meters.
