KANSAS CITY, Mo. - College of Idaho's Lila Klopfenstein received the highest honor bestowed by the national office today, as the sophomore was named NAIA National Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Klopfenstein placed eighth overall at the Inland Empire Challenge in Lewiston on Saturday, with her time of 17:10 a personal best and the fifth-fastest 5,000-meter time in program history.
She becomes just the second C of I women's cross country runner to earn the award, as Hillary Holt won the award during both the 2012 and 2013 season.
Klopfenstein is the 13th Lady Yote overall to earn a National Player of the Week honor - joining women's soccer playersÂ
Amy Rhoades (2007) and Brittany Hougton (2014); women's basketball players Chakala Carthen (2014) and Alyson Pincock (2001); volleyball players Sarah Harris (2010), Erin Cherrington (2006), Charity Gaston (2005) and Amanda Basanez (2003); softball players Nickayla Skinner (2012) and Katie Zillner (2008); and runners Jasmine Hurd (2013) and Hlllary Holt (once in 2012, three times in 2013, twice in 2014).
